Surviving Minnesota!

How did everyone fair in the storm of last evening?

I was greeted this morning my down tree branches and a rubber roof in the middle of a rural intersection near my house. So we were fairly unscathed.

I understand some people were taking there back to school pictures in the dark without power. I guess that is one way to have a memorable back to school!

Ooops spoke to soon.....the farm was not so unscathed. A few downed trees, one on the deck of my in-laws house, a tipped grain bin and a hoop shed that was destroyed. It could have been worse. :)

Rubbing alcohol or hand sanitizer cleans bluekote right up. (Ask my face how I know)
:lau:lau:lau I should have looked on here first thing this morning! Going to try right now...

Well, it did help... my hands are pretty rough. I now know where all my callouses are. :gig Grateful it wasn’t my face!

I think everyone on this thread needs and deserves a turkey hen...

They are so sweet and luvable, quiet and innocent appearing... as such I will give each of you a hen do you can discover the joy of turkeys....
I raised turkeys for a few years, before DH finally said, "No more!". They were great fun! They would follow me everywhere - even when I went for a walk. Fortunately, at the time, we lived on a dirt road that was only used by the school bus and the mailman most of the year. (Hunting season was a different story, but that was only for a couple of months.) But, they all had the same bad habit. You know how turkeys like bright, shiny things? Well, DH is a farmer, and has always worked on his own machinery. When he takes something apart, he lays all the parts out in the order in which he took them off the equipent. The turkeys would grab the parts and run off with them. DH was not amused.

:lau:gig:lau I can imagine he would not be!

Our power got knocked out last night, must have been 830 or so. Wasn't fixed until this afternoon. All the transformers along our driveway had to be replaced.
Four of them I guess. Otherwise everything was ok, except for an egg  The coop lights are on a timer, they come on at 5am but no power this morning so no lights, I went out to say good morning and the hen that sits on top of the opened window was yelling very loud, I thought she was wanting down to eat but it was still too dark for her to see, but I was wrong. Found her smashed egg this afternoon when I got home from work- where it had fallen from above. Guess I should have helped her down like she wanted.
