The 7th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-A-Long!

Oh ok because I heard that it depends on the air sells

Well, yes, if you were going to be there, you might choose to do something more specific based on wha the air cells look like. But if you're not, it's probably ok.

If they arrive broken, that's another story, because any intact ones with broken egg on them they would need to be carefully washed with a diluted bleach solution that is between about 95--115F (no cooler, no hotter) - I had to do that with my shipped eggs. And that moves them around. I'm hoping someone else will pipe up with suggestions if that happens. But if it doesn't, I think you're good to just let them sit until you're back (as long as it won't be days).

Day 4 Observations

I'm still pretty disappointed. Still not seeing any movement in the Andalusian eggs. They're white. I should see something by now. Still waiting for day 7 to make a call.

The silkie eggs are doing fantastic! No problems with them thus far. Like the Andalusian eggs, I set them in various places around the bator and they're all doing well. Some are actually next to the so far failing white eggs.

Jazzy, my 4 year old BA is having some fertility issues from what I can see so far. She has very distinct eggs. About half of them are showing development. It could just be an age issue since I'm seeing the same thing in her brood mates, Sora and Rhodey. No problems from Henpool or Marble's eggs. I'm not sure about Oddity. I haven't found any of her white eggs, so I don't know if her pigment problem sorted itself out or if she's just not laying. She's in the boxes a lot, so I'm not sure.

More problems from Blizzard's pen. Most of the eggs from that pen seem to be clear. The larger eggs from that pen are developing, so maybe he just likes his hen and my Buckeye hens. Some of the Buff Orps have dirt on their backs from him, but I don't if they're the ones that have been laying the smaller eggs. I may end up taking some of his girls and giving them to Oddball or starting a new pen with them. Time will tell.

More updates on this tomorrow night! Stay tuned for Day 5

I usually never candle tell right before lockdown. But I just candled my orust eggs I set on the March 3. And see development in 8 out of the ten. I paid 115 for these eggs so I'm super excited. Looking good so far for Orust chicks for Easter!!!!

Have to ask..about your Buckeyes. How do they lay? Pretty good..or really good? I've had my eye on them for a while. No pun intended, until I wrote it!
