They're looking good KSKingBee, how are they doing at their job now?
Huh, from what I had been reading collonca were not the same but are a south American relative? So Auracanas don't have rumps? Back to the books I guess!
Edit: I have two Easter eggers currently and some CC Legbars in the incubator. Due thanksgiving day. My pops also has an auracana roo from@sharol that we might borrow for breeding next year.
From what I read the colloncas were an ancestor of the Araucanas that they used to produce them with as well as the Quetero that had the tufts. The colloncas were rumpless but had no tufts. You won't find any colloncas now most likely, they originated in Chile. I know there was one guy on BYC claiming he was raising them but I would be leery of that. The Ameraucanas have tails & muffs & are a totally different breed. Easter Eggers are made usually by breeding an Ameraucana with various breeds to get a bird with muffs but it does not meet the APA standard for the Ameraucana. I hope that helps clear up confusion.
I worked yesterday on getting tarps over my breeder pens & getting more bedding put in the pens after that to be a buffer from the cold ground. I have needed to cover those pens for a long time. I hate having my birds standing in icky mud & snow. They were all really upset that I was messing with their pens but I think they'll be glad I did. Chickens are such creatures of habit, they don't like things changed most of the time. I think I about have everything close to being ready for bad weather, that is if none of my heated bowls fail. I plan to go get a couple today to have an extra just in case. It seems like I have to replace one or two every year. I guess at least they're not really expensive.
