Thanksgiving day we ran to the grocery store on our way to feed the homeless to pick up a few things that they had forgotten (ie, counter cleaner, dish soap) and as we were walking out they had a man who was developmentally delayed on cart duty. He let 10 carts run into the drivers door right in front of me. We had witnesses and the damage was VERY minor. The manager came out took pics told me to get an estimate and they will pay no problem.

The estimates were for $1200!!!! It is too unbelieveable. So tomorrow I get an enormous check, and that equal one incubator and LOTS of eggs!!!!! I can't stand it!!!

OK Do I get the Hova 1632 which has fan and turner or an Octagon?????

And I'm a little scared cuz of the thread about hatch rates on here and seems ebay has a pretty bad ratio for this group of folks. I wanted some EE, welsummer and black astralorps, and BLRW. I thought I was going to have to wait till spring, but now I can do it NOW....(no, I have absolutely no self control, will power or patience... so please don't ask me to exercise what I don't understand LOl).

Any thoughts on eggs? My original plan was to get them all at once and just have one big hatch so they will all be the same size. But may I should do a practice hatch first?

Can you spell S-P-O-I-L-E-D B-R-A-T?

It's not fair!

Problem is, I'm the one who keeps running into things. I'm never gonna get one.

Let's see, I took out a fence post the other day, a couple of sprinker heads. Oh, I jacked up a car with the bucket of my tractor. Didn't hurt anything though, and it's just a junk car anyway. Oh the joys of snow plowing. DH took out a curb. Oh yeah, I've taken out several of those too, I forgot. Guess I'll be spending spring making repairs all over town. Won't have time for chicks. I know everybody expects it to happen, but I still hate it when something does.

Personally I'd go for the Hova bator "Genesis' - I think the model is 1588 - with the electronically controlled thermostat and fan and add an egg turner. You can get that combo for less than $250, if I remember correctly.

Or, the Octagon 20...with the auto turner - but you know 20 eggs at a time is NOT going to be enough space - just like that first coop we build is never large enough... LOL

Or, make your own for less than $50 and spend more money on eggs!!

Enjoy!

Thanks Katy - I thought after I posted that $250 was too much for the 1588.

If I was going to BUY a bator, that's the one I'd get. Of course, since I already have two home made ones, I really don't NEED one... really, I don't....right??....

HMMMM .... Don't you feel bad at all about taking so much money for what you called "VERY MINOR" damage ? I'm not trying to sound condescending , but where did the old adage go of "Do unto others that you would do unto yourself ?" . Let me ask you a question , if you were in the place of that "developmentally challenged person " would you not feel sorry that you mistakenly did that to someone ? Would you not be a little P.O 'ed that someone was taking advantage of a mistake ? I'm not judging , but it seems to me that there are too many people out there willing to take advantage of situations like this . If it were me , I wouldn't be thinking about a new incubator , I'd be taking my vehicle to another shop for a reasonable repair . That's just me though . (and no , I don't go to church or am religiously inclined , I talk to God in my own way and it seems to work just fine . )
Good luck finding what you're searching for .

Wow, thats ALOT for a door dent. That's almost as much as my rear quarter panel smashed in. Insurance should cover that as accident so the store should easily be able to pay the deductible and since it was a non moving accident. It won't up your insurance rates either. Shop around for shops too since some do so much better work than others. Ask to see previous work and get a tour of the shop.

It is the stores responsibility not the employees. The store pays for insurance for those things. The store has pics so she could not go out and get an inflated quote. I doubt the mentally challenged guy was effected. If your car is damaged you are entitled to the money whether you decide to get it repaired or not. Think of it this way the money compensates for lower resale when you decide to sell it if you choose not to fix it. On edit. 1200 may sound high for a minor door dent. A minor dent can cost big though. The dent would have to be removed. paint damage repaired (Think blend time) Some paint colors are very expensive too. You cannot just paint the spot that was dented and make it look right. You have to paint a larger area and slowly fade out so it matches the older paint on the car instead of sticking out like a sore thumb.
