3 month old turkey with blackhead

It is not advised to give metronidazole (flagyl) in water as it is very bitter tasting and they probably won't drink it. You can get metronidazole OTC as Fish-Zole (250 mg) or Meditrich (100mg). The recommended dose is no less than 30mg/kg by mouth once a day for five days, but many people give more and some give it twice a day.

1kg = 2.2 pounds

Great info on the meds & dosing but I haven't seen any info about egg withdrawal while medicating. I have chickens, turkeys & ducks living together on the same ground & the info given has been very informative. I use the Rooster Booster Multi-Wormer Triple Action on a regular basis because there is no egg withdrawal. This product kills round worms, cecal worms & capillary worms. Main ingredient is Hygromycin B along with essential amino acids, vitamins, minerals, and microbials.

Metronidazole is banned for use in food animals, so you won't find an official withdrawal time for it.

Hygromycin B has no egg withdrawal, but it won't treat blackhead, and it won't treat any worms if the bird doesn't eat it. FYI, come 1-1-2017 I think it will be prescription only along with almost all other food/water antibiotics.

In the UK, fenbendazole (Safeguard) given at 1 mg/kg for 5 days has no withdrawal time, but that dose only treats roundworms and cecal worms. Other worms, like capillary worms, need much more than that, which of course would mean egg withdrawal.

Flubendazole in the UK doesn't require withdrawal either, but it's a little harder to find in the US.
