BYC Café

I took my driving test in sleet and snow in January. On the way there, the car did a 360 in front of a truck. I straighten the car back up and kept driving. I think my Dad's fingernails were imbedded in the dash of the Cadillac. Drove to the DMV and passed my first attempt. Nothing made me nervous after spinning on the bridge.
Why in Gods name did you have to take a drivers test ?

Ummm your my age .. I was out of college when I got mine but had been driving for 10 years .. How many years did you drive without one.;
I only had a permit, but right after driver's ed i took my test. I think i was 16 or so. No driving without a license.

Good morning Cafe. Coffee is ready.
No driving without a license.
I did plenty of that. I started driving when I was 13 because I was too scared to ride with my drunk mother driving so I would drive instead. Or my sister. That's a hell of a way to have to learn.

My dad scared the crap out of me, and I didn't get my license until after he died when I was 22.

He had a stick shift, and took us three kids out for driving lessons when my sister was 14. I was 10. She was trying to drive, and of course the car was jerking because she was learning on a clutch. Dad kept yelling, "Put in the clutch! Put in the clutch!" I was terrified he'd yell at me like that, and I didn't even want to steer, sitting on his lap, for my lesson. I took my Drivers' Ed class the last time it was offered while I was in high school, as a senior. (My mom insisted, as it was free.)

After he died, I realized, I could do this now. With an automatic, of course. But now I drive a stick shift, just fine.
