Salsa tub = the plastic container that refrigerated salsa comes in from the grocery store. Like a single serving yogurt container, just bigger. Or a margarine tub, it doesn't really matter, it's just what I had several of around the house.

About the grit, yes, most people put it on the side. They will eat it if they need to. No need to mix it in with other foodstuffs. Don't overdo it on the grass clippings, some folks have had their birds get impacted crops from too much grass clippings. I haven't had the issue, but I also don't feed them grass clippings because they get plenty nibbling on it on their free-range time.

Ok thanks @pdirt my chickens r basically locked up in the coop& run most of the time bc I don't have to much time to let them free range& watch over them to make sure they don't run off (which I doubt they would) and don't get picked up by a neighbors dog that got loose or even worse, a hawk. So the only way they'd get grass is if I give it to them.
