Went to Tractor Supply for some shavings for the coops. They have bags
of PlotSpike Forage Oats for seeding plots for deer for 19.99 for 50 lb bag.
Said on the bag "No Fillers. No Protective coating". http://plotspike.com/forageoats.htm

I cleaned out our coops and the shavings were piled in the burn pile, I guess I got enough dirt and excess spilled seed that there was TONS of wheat/Oat sprouts, the girls found them and cleaned them out.

do you know if it is genetically modified? I have been having trouble sprouting my oats. I am interested in your outcome! Good luck,==========================

PlotSpike Forage Oats
PlotSpike Forage Oats make a fantastic early season, annual plot. These oats
were bred specifically for forage and yield a tremendous amount of high quality
forage in the Fall of the year.

None of our mixes will grow in total shade, however, we recommend you try
our Shade Blend mix if you think there might be enough sunlight getting to the plot.

Shade Blend is easy to establish and should work if the plot gets as little
as 4 hours of sunlight per day.

Ask the developer of the seed. I have found these scientists and researcher wonderfully
forthcoming with information when I ask about their area of interest.

Karen, was that the TSC in Latrobe? I ask because I see you're up in Ligonier (I live in Pleasant Unity). I have to get a bunny cage from them later on this week, so I may get a big bag of oats then.

ok so my girls dont like soybean sprouts. I have another batch in work, so maybe they will like those better.
They seem to like the wheat and rice berries more before they have a lot of sprout. about day 3, not so much at day 4

I am getting the hang of this sprout thing!

Karen, I have been in correspondence with Mike at plotspike. While the seed is not organic, they are also not genetically modified, but selectively bred. Also, they should be excellent for sprouting....just what I want! Thank you very much for the info

Hi!
Good to hear from you!' Yes, it was. When I left they had three bags left bulk-stacked on the endcap.
Someone just freecycled a bunny type cage on our local yahoo list. Don't know if anyone picked it up or not.
Best,
