April 2020 Hatch-A-Long! All are welcome!

Good Morning! I have been reading along all month but now I have a question. We are on Day22. I don't even have a pip : (. We candled on Day 15 and took out the nonfertile eggs. I candled a few yesterday and they definitely are fuller eggs. The brown shells makes things so difficult to make out. What is the latest hatch you've ever had? I don't want to throw the babies out with the bathwater.

Alright, I haven’t been able to post much for this hatch. Today is day 21 under my broody. Overnight the 3 ee eggs hatched, pics to follow. I have 1 silkie egg that has started to zip. If it doesn’t hatch soon, should I put some coconut oil on it to prevent shrink wrapping. One other egg has pipped and the last 2 nothing is visible yet.

I woke up to two chicks! All other eggs are pipped. :jumpy :celebrate :love

My list of keepers just keep growing :lau I need to thin my other grow outs a bit to make room. Always a bitter sweet part of the process. They're only 9 weeks but I'm attached already. At least I'm done hatching so I can start crunching the numbers and figure out next year's layers. I do this based on egg color. So I have as colorful an egg basket as possible.

Current birds:
3 laying hens
9-9 week old pullets
2-9 week old roos
3-2 week old Silkies
2-2 week old Showgirl
6- 1 week old ducklings
5 (likely 6)- just hatched Legbars

Good thing chicks are so popular right now. Maybe I'll sell some instead of giving them away like I usually do.

A pic of my February hatch a long chicks helping in the garden.

Did you candle them to see if you actually saw a movement?

I usually don't wait any longer than 48 hours after day 21. Then I start doing egg topsies.
