August Hatch-A-Long

@WendyF Sorry to hear about your hatch.

Praying that you get some late hatches.
X2 WendyF...
I saw a gentleman on YouTube water candle eggs that he couldn't see movement in and those eggs bounced up and down showing proof of life...also added a bit of H20 to the egg which can't hurt if they are late 'bloomers', which I pray they are.
Fingers crossed, all ten of them, wish for you some little miracles.

Can I ask what you all use for incubators? I have this cheap one from eBay and apparently it doesn't have enough ventilation and I am hoping to be able to make do with it as I wont get my money back for it for sure.

I was hoping to make use with it until I can afford another, which I am looking at http://eshop.bellsouth.com.au/epages/bellsouth.sf/en_AU/?ObjectPath=/Shops/bellsouth/Products/B100 and slowly upgrade it to automatic. The lady I called said I only needed to turn a minimum of 2 times but I will go three.

Any advice for a newbie as to how I can make do with the one I have now or should I just list the one I have now. I could list as new as I have not used it at all only turned it on. Haven't even added water as I was planning on the dry hatch method.

Thanks In Advance.

Well, it looks like I'm getting 4\8. My last chick just hatched, it still looks like it needs to finish absorbing a little yolk, but it looks healthy enough. When it came out, I decided to candle the remaining 4 eggs for any signs of life. They all had very irregular shaped air cells and were gone. They'd been rocking strong along with the other eggs that hatched, so I don't know what happened to them. They had absorbed their yolks and were ready to go..hmm. I did struggle with humidity though, so maybe they just weren't strong enough to break out?

I'm super happy with my 4 little blue Silkies though! I plan on moving them to their brooder tomorrow. I'll take pics then and share.

Soooo, now I've got 20 eggs left in the incubator and 6 under a broody due to hatch around the 27th. I'll candle my bator eggs tomorrow when the chicks get moved out and see how they're doing. And, I'm thinking about sticking some more in there. I gave 9 more to another broody today and I still have another 25 I need to do something with

400
and it's almost day 21!!!

Bryce is keeping my hope alive...13 days to lock down.................................................................................................................................................................

Well my first incubator is a is a large heavy cardboard box with a lift off lid that I put a glass window in. It uses 2, 25 watt bulbs for the heat source, controlled by a wafer thermostat. It also has a small CPU fan for circulation. The inside is lined with an extra thickness of cardboard that is also covered with aluminum foil to help retain the heat and humidity inside. It works great and maintains the temperature within 1 degree. Then I bought a new Hovabator 1602N on Ebay for around $40 US. It also works well and I am very pleased with it. I currently have eggs in the Hovabator that are due to hatch on the 20-21st. I also have the cardboard box running as a back up, to be ready in case something happens. If you don't feel your bator has enough air circulation , you could possibly drill a few small holes in it to increase the air flow.

Thanks, how will I know if I have enough air circulation? I am new and hoping to put some eggs in soon. Any way of telling prior to adding eggs or will I only know when I try to hatch the eggs?
