Best breed for broody hens

We have 13 Dark Cornish pullets (8 months old), two are currently broody and sitting on eggs, one is about two weeks in, the other just started to be serious. They are hatchery stock, so I was bit surprised.

i have a really large uk blood orpington, would it be safe to let her sit bantam eggs? i am worried she may step on the chicks-she would be a first time mom

I know this thread is a bit old but I've found it super helpful. I'm currently planing what poultry and livestock I will raise for eggs and meat. For poultry I'm looking at chickens, quail, ducks an turkeys. I've read about quail not being broody or quitting part way through so I'm looking at an incubator for hatching them, but am wondering about using a broody chicken hen for the rest. Any thoughts would be helpful :)

An update on our Dark Cornish girls - 7 of the 13 pullets we have went broody in the last 5 months, several more than once. I'm amazed at this!
