Eggs In the Incubator

@Hawk12 so sorry to hear about your losses! A bad hatch is absolutely sickening. I'm so glad you are going to try again. After one of my terrible hatches I swore I would never hatch eggs again. I didn't follow through on that, thank goodness, and just this past week I had a successful hatch. If you learn from your mistakes, you will have better and better hatches as time goes on. Thank you, I'm nervous but not ready to give up. I'm going to increase my temp a little. I moved the incubator to my quilt room and that room is off limits to everyone but me That should help keep the temp more constant and the eggs will be away from all windows. I really want it to go better this time. I layed the eggs down during lockdown this last time. I've read that some people put them in egg cartons for lockdown. Do you know if one is better than the other?

I'm getting the incubator ready. I haven't put the eggs in yet. They are being shipped to me and won't arrive until next week. I will post what I am going to do differently in a couple hours. I've been doing a lot of reading and shipped eggs need to be incubated a little different than eggs that weren't shipped.

Make sure your incubator is thoroughly cleaned before adding new eggs--incubators are breeding grounds for all kinds of bacteria, which can really hurt the embryo and contribute to a bad hatch. Yes, I would always err a little on the side of hot (100 degrees in forced fan incubator) as all my bad hatches have been due to too low temperature. If when you candle at day 10, you notice a larger quantity of "early quitters" you will know you have the temp too hot. Make sure you have several reliable thermometers (this is crucial)
Some people do put the eggs in the cartons to prevent them from being rolled around by those chicks already hatched; I have never had a problem with them being rolled around--that actually may encourage the others to hatch out and "join the fun."

I would recommend you check out @AmyLynn2374 's dry incubation method--she is a pro at incubation and is extremely helpful Hope your hatch is successful! Please keep us updated with how your eggs are doing! You may want to start a new thread.
