My emu egg should be here tomorrow or Wednesday! I am super stoked. I cannot find who I got my egg from, but it was from someone on here that posted an ebay link. I snagged that last egg up and cannot wait to start cooking it!

I do have a valid question, I was only able to get one egg as it was the only one left. Do emus need other emus to be totally happy? Or will they be fine flocking up with other animal companions?

Morning, Holliewould!

Emotional debate, this one! I am radical, and think all emus should have lots of space and other emus.

Seriously, though, if you have the space, a pair is great. Imagine being stuck on a desert island without someone to talk to! Contrary to the stuff you see on the Net, emus hang out together in the wild. Yes, they are happy alone at times, but far more often in breeding-pairs, and sometimes in flocks of ten or twenty. The breeding-pairs are already evident here, and autumn is not yet begun. So that's six months a year together.

Finally, bear in mind that the ability to separate critters can be almost a necessity every so often. This complicates the Space Thing. There are breeders here who will address this issue for you.

[Tee hee hee. Small community, this. Everyone is probably reading. Gee, this community has become quiet recently.
I bet Spot and Spottina pass through today. I have started checking the mud at the dam for tracks when I take my twilight stroll. Fresh tracks yesterday. No other birds sighted. We''ve had rain, but it's pretty dry.
Some of you may remember that S.E. took the back fence out of the back yard to allow the emus to cruise through. Well, it's so dry now that 'roos are coming in to get pickings -- by thet grey water ditch and the septic. Got upside-down buckets on the silverbeet stubs to let them grow back. Roos ate some chives, and have started in on the leaves of the cucumber.]

Thanks Briefvisit! I have read online the same things you mention. I am a very lucky person because the interest in emu's are pretty high where I live :) I already have people wanting the baby. My egg is going into the incubator in about 3 hours! My humidity is at 38% with a running temperature of 97*. My egg weight is 657 grams total. I really hope I can do this successfully.
