It's normal for sexlink pullets to start turning red in the comb after 12 weeks old. They tend to be fast maturing, and lay earlier than other breeds. If it is a red sexlink, then it's a pullet. If you got this bird from a less-than-reputable place, then it might be a male. Many people don't understand that sexlinks don't breed true. They aren't a breed, they are a cross of two different breeds. Sometimes you come across someone breeding male and female red sexlinks, and then selling those chicks as whatever 'brand' the original birds were bought as, not realizing they are just breeding and selling mixed breeds that can't be sexed at hatch.
