Ibuprofen Dose for Ducks

Yes! A poultry specialist vet! Then I searched about it and its side effects and it was too much I refused to give it to her for now. I gave her meloxicam, I’m not sure if I should go on with the vet prescription..
where did you search?

Piroxicam
is a non-selective NSAID used for is anti-inflammatory properties as well as its value as a chemopreventative and anti-tumor agent. It has a much higher potency against COX-1 than COX-2. Piroxicam has good oral bioavailability and a long half-life in mammals but PD and PK studies have not been done in any avian species. Despite the high incidence of negative side effects of piroxicam used in humans, there are no reports of its toxicity in birds. It has been used clinically at doses of 1 mg/kg PO every 12 to 24 hours for long-term treatment of chronic arthritis in cranes.

Thank you for the info! I would like to have your insight, do you think it’s a wise choice? Can meloxicam replace it? I’ve gave meloxicam to my duck many times before and there was no serious side effects . We have no idea why there’s a swollen spot on her ankle

I think it the vet prescribed it you should give it. If you are worried, call the vet and ask why they prescribed it instead of Meloxicam.

I don’t mean to undermine the vet’s knowledge but she might not be that experienced when it comes to ducks, that’s why I’m hesitating a bit.
Also she prescribed Ciprofloxacin, which I read somewhere it has neuroexcitatory interactions with Oxicam NSAIDs, I’m a little concerned about what’s the right thing to do right now .
