I am 1500 miles away from Cameron TX. They do fine with longer distances too. Ideal shipped 26 bantams on Wed. and all 26 made it alive and well this morning, despite the record heat across the country. This was the first time they have sent an extra chick in one of the shipments I got from them.

Plus,I am really, really happy with Ideal poultry's customer service. When I ordered the "last hour assorted bantam special" on Wednesday, July 20th, I ordered over the phone. I politely asked them if they could make a note on the order form that Cochins are my favorite breed. I was hoping to get a few Cochins in the assortment if they had any, since they REALLY ARE my favorite and mainly all I keep these days. I was doing the happy dance... I got 17 cochins!

Here is what I ended up with in Ideal's Special Bantam Assortment:

1 Blue or Self Blue Cochin
3 Black Cochins (one has a little more yellow, maybe it is a birchen)
3 White Cochins
7 Red and/or Buff Cochins. These are always tough for me to tell apart
1 Golden Laced Cochin
1 Silver penciled Cochin
1 Easter Egger, but it looks really big, like a standard, large fowl size chick
1 Partridge Cochin
2 Golden Sebright
1 White Japanese
3 Golden Duckwing Olde English
2 Red Pyle Olde English? Or maybe Buff Orpington Bantam?

I got 25 cochin bantams. Lots of colors but I don't know what they are. Could you post pictures so I can see what they look like? Maybe I have some of your babies brothers and sisters, LOL Some have chipmunk stripes, those are the ones I am confused about. Aren't they precious?

I ordered from Ideal in Spring of 2008. Ordered 10 pullets, specified NO MALES FOR WARMTH, and got 10 pullets. No sexing mistakes, no deaths in transit. I have been thrilled with those birds. Happy, healthy, friendly girls.

That was my one and only hatchery order. Since then, I've only hatched eggs from breeder birds. It's been interesting. Lots of little roosters to contend with. Lots of broody hens, too many for comfort. Much less egg production, and less in the personality department, too. I've sold off entire hatches of breeder birds because I didn't like their personalities, or because they were supposed to lay dark eggs and didn't... Just a multitude of reasons that the expensive breeder birds didn't do it for me.

I am currently contemplating another order from Ideal. It's high time that I add some more friendly, reliable HENS to the flock.

I wouldn't consider any other hatchery after my wonderful experience with Ideal.

The chipmunk looking ones in my assortment are the ones I think are Olde English. I have someone coming to pick out 8 chicks in about an hour. But, I will try to make time to take pictures before they get here, just not the fancy black background with key lighting kind. I won't have time to post them until much later today.

I got online right after I ordered on Wednesday and wrote down everything that Ideal was sold out of. I figured it could help me narrow down the breeds of some of the chicks, or at least any chicks I got multiples of.

I got 7 red and/ or buff cochin bantams

I got 1 golden laced cochin

I got what I am guessing is 1 blue/ splash/ or self blue cochin. It has a straight comb and doesn't have any extra toes, black skin, etc. so it isn't a silkie. I will have to wait and see what it is.

I got one of each of these: I think it is a partridge cochin on the left. It has a straight comb and no beard, but it looks a little different than the other partridges I have raised. The chick on the right is the odd ball. It seems to be large fowl sized and sure looks like an easter egger with a peacomb and beard.

This picture from left to right has a black cochin, 2 golden sebrights, a white japanese?, and a white cochin

Here is another picture of one of the golden sebrights.

I think that is all the varieties except the silver pencilled. Apparently, I missed photographing it on Friday before I sold it, but here is a pic of another one I raised.
