What kind of feeders does everyone use that helps to keep the feed in the feeder instead all over they pen? My quail are a bunch of messy little boogers!

Very simple and zero (and I mean zero) waste: Put the traditional chicken feeder into a dog bowl that fits around it. They have to bend their heads down to eat, it stays in the dish, seriously, zero waste. And zero poop in it, too.

One of these kind:

You can cut the top off of these plastic jars and slip a piece of 3 ft 4" PVC and now you have a week long auto feeder instead of a day just use a PVC cap to cover the pipe.

I made one out of a 2 inch PVC pipe. Works well at keeping feed off the ground.

The wholes are 2 1/8". I fill it once a week. I only have four birds in that cage tho. That pipe is bigger than 2 inches ( my mistake I will check it in the morning and repost)And it's almost 4 feet long. If you make the wholes just big enough for a birds head to fit you will get no wasted feed on the ground. Also I hot glued a rock to the side so it wouldn't roll over. This is key!

If you get the feeders that fit a 1 quart jar then you can cut the top off the plastic jar it comes with and slide a piece of 4" PVC or ABS over the jar (or you could slide a piece of 3" inside the jar) so you can make it hold more feed. I usually make them about three feet tall. I use those because they have openings a little smaller than a silver dollar and the quail still scratch food of it. Elevating the tray/pan/feeder a few inches so they have to reach over the edge a bit really cuts down on the food waste though. Suspended feeders (hanging from the ceiling) also work really well.

if your handy. i made mine with a 4 in pvc pipe. about 3 inches up i cut 1 1/4 in holes all the way around. inside put a funnel. you can move the funnel wherever it needs to be so they have to reach for food. then put some small screws into it to hold the funnel in place.. mines mounted on a piece of plywood. it waste no feed.

Do you have a picture? I am handy and have some different size hole saws and some pipe. Zero food waste is what im looking for.

i tried to get a picture but they aren't very good. i made a funnel out of a piece of sheet aluminum but a cheap plastic funnel could be cut to fit real easy. the pvc rim is not import and it was already on the pipe so i just left it
