Hi Louie. You can't go wrong with Jerseys. They were my first choice as a chicken, and 3 years later and having other breeds, too, they are still my first choice-as a pet!

hello, I saw the number of your posts and went to view your pics, I love the coop your hubby built you!!

I never forced myself on them. I just let them be chickens around me.

ChickwannaB....we are spoiled by the "Michigan thread". Not all threads are that active! I just am too inexperienced to be able to help you out ....I think they look fine but really haven't studied the type enough to know much. I think this thread counts of Wynette to help us out and she isn't online that much. I am starting to have roo "issues" here. My jersey's are almost 3 months and I have 6 of them and they are just started to crow and get "into" each other. I'm a little nervous because Opa said that even though raised together they can suddenly start fighting and kill each other.????
Do you need a roo Chicwannb?? I have some from Maria Hall (black) and some "splash" from Wynette. I haven't decided which one I'm keeping yet but I'm getting it narrowed down some.

I'll keep you in mind Fife, but mine are .looking so different from one another I've little doubt one is a roo and one a hen, but only time will tell for sure.
Lovely pics from theoldchick, very sweet. I know eventually I'll have to decide and only have a couple of breeds, not 5 different breeds. I do love my Barred Rocks, very sweet, the Rh Isl Reds not so much, they may eventually be culled, freezer camp or whatever. I do love my Chante's but cannot keep two roos, like Opa said, they'll kill each other. I think one roos, whoever it is, will be plenty pleased having 11 hens to himself.
I love the Brahmas cuz they ARE laying, tho I haven't found anything yesterday or today, I wonder if they're dropping them in the taller grass around the yard and I have to go on an Easter Egg hunt. I hate to keep them in lock down till they deposit for me cuz it's so hot in the coop lately even with a fan moving air.
The Jerseys are a def inate KEEP.

Great pics, the one where I can see the bottom of a shoe?? Are you setting right in the brooder?? how funny. I do spend alot of time setting out in the lawn, maybe I should set right on the ground? Im usually in the metal lawn chair, so possibly that keeps them at bay? I love your pictures, you tell your birds are adored!! thanx for sharing!!

I possibly won't be on tomorrow at all, DH goes down to Troy Beaumont Hosp for shoulder surgery. Anybody wanna come over and hold my hand?? Surgery is set for 11:30 but Im not sure if that it the time prep begins, IV, shaving, meds etc, or if we have to be there an hour before that. Anyway, thats where Im gonna be, and of course I'll be driving home and doing most of the chores for the next 6 weeks as he'll be in a sling.
