I have a duckling that I think is female (I have 2 one if MUCH larger than the other and I believe it is a male) I purchased them thinking they were pekins and now I believe they are muscovies based on their heads changing color. Anyway the one I call a mle is very sweet, eats from your hand, is curious about my chicks but doesn't hurt them and will occasionally peck the dog but not in a "mean" way.
The female on the other hand is good with my daughter (who is 3) but bite my husband and I every time we get near her or even just change the food and water. She also bites the dog very hard and as he is a Chihuahua mix I'm nervous for when she is full grown. the ducklings and chicks originally lived together but I had to separate them due to the mess factor. They have since been outdoor several times together and had no problems. Last night the female suddenly became super aggressive and bit my chicks wings very hard and shook her head almost like a pit bull. The chicks that were bit were screaming when it happened. I managed to get them apart and she got 2 more by the wings while I was trying to removed her from the pen. She then grabbed ones head and would have killed it was I not able to catch her.
I ended up putting her away so the chicks could calm down since they were so stressed I couldn't catch them. Is there any way to correct this or will it just continue to get worse? I am considering rehoming her to a friend with a duck only flock. (they are pekins will a Muscovy fit in?) I would then have to get out other duck a friend though which would probably involve raising 2 more :/
