That is probably true. About the bloat part anyway. If a goat bloats you treat it. You don't euthanize it. If a goat is going to die from bloat it dies quickly. You wouldn't have time to euthanize it even if you were so inclined. The best treatment I have found for bloat is plain old Gas X you get at the drug or grocery store. It is fast, safe, effective and works a whole lot better than the traditional remedies like oil and the medications for bloat like thera-bloat. A fellow goat dairyman told me about Gas X and how effective it is and she was right. Gas X and clostridium perfingens antitoxin were two things I always kept on hand when I had goats.I think that the person i talked to said, only feed alfalfa easing it into their diet, or it can bloat them and they will have to be euthanized.
