I can't remember reading this anywhere, but because of the BBS gene, could two blue partridge's produce a splash partridge? Does someone have a picture of a splash partridge chick?
Ah, but as with the blue they have a white toenail.Yes, Blue X Blue = 50% Blue, 25% Black, 25% Splash. There is a Blue / Splash thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/470997/splash-blue-silkie-thread Here is a picture of a young splash chick. They look very similar to white chicks and get their splashes later.![]()

Not sure if they all have it but I did wonder about that. What does it mean? These are from Cackle and I wasn't sure if I was going to keep any of them or not. Is it something they could grow out of or is it a DQ relegating them to pet quality only?

I just found this (below) from an old thread - so I guess that answers my question.
Melanization is the black appearance in the silkies skin (and in black feathers). Sometimes blue or splash chicks will have pink toes when they are hatched. Typically they become black or "melanize in" over a few weeks, rarely staying pink. If they did stay pink, that would be a DQ as the standard of perfection calls for black skin. Some will have a white toenail and that would not be a DQ, just a point could be taken off by a judge if that bird was being shown.
