Here in Australia it's common for heritage breed hens to sell for $40-$50, or more if first year laying.
Roosters are free or $5-$20.
I got some ex-battery ISA's for $10 a head a while ago.
But our "free range" eggs in the supermarket are usually $6 or more a dozen.

Well, I live in a small country town in alabama. Most people have chickens, as most are farmers. But in my town I'm known as one to come to for help, especially on selling prices. I usually sell hens (depending on breeds) for 5-20$, normally if someone buys some hens from me, for insurance for more service and just to be neighborly, I include a rooster for free. That's usually with a purchase of 3 or more hens!
