Ramp vs stairs

I made these this afternoon.

Carolina Coops changed from ramps to stairs 2 or 3 years ago. I copied their design and went with a ramp, but mines on the end of the coop and not right in the middle so not in the way (as much).

Chooks are happy with either imo.

I use ramps so that as my hens age, they don't have to jump/hop/flap up to heights and over huge open spaces that can be tough for them to navigate. My ramps are about 7-8" wide and have small "cleats" (pieces of interior trim, scrap pieces of cut lumber, etc.) with smooth-sanded edges attached across the ramp at intervals from about 3-5". I try to keep the angle much less than 45*, usually by propping up the bottom edge of the ramp with some stacked pieces of 2x4s; the girls typically begin their ascent up the ramp by jumping partway up anyway. With a ramp they can take their time and walk carefully up into the coop.
