So my 6 month old speckled sussex laid a very small egg the other day but nothing for 2-3 days now. How often should she lay once she lays the first one?
I'm not sure if it was her very first one since i just got her 1 week ago. It was vry small though, like an oval shaped golf ball.

All birds are irregular in both laying sequence and egg size for the first few weeks especially. I'd expect six eggs a week from her in pullet year until winter then back up to six until fall molt. After adult molt she'll likely only lay five eggs a week but they will be larger. Current egg size will continue to increase and steady out in a month or so. Once in a while pullets throw monster double yolk eggs too, the first six months is more common for those.

So since i started this thread, my speckled has laid this much plus 1 that i already ate :) they seem to be getting bigger too...the 3 larger ones are from another older hen.
