I need to do that too. I trimmed the vent feathers on my Wyandottes but really they probably would all benefit from a trim. Now that the weather has warmed it certainly wouldn't hurt.

Just around the vent. I honestly have only done it on my Wyandottes but the fluffier the butt the more they need a cut! They will still look fluffy...just trim a bit around the vent...maybe a centimeter in every direction.

As mentioned earlier, I crossed a jubilee cockerel with a splash hen.
You'll get the same chicks + black colored downs as @SanderB explained. I don't think you'll see lots of red those first weeks.
