Well, now you have an idea of what he is doing, now that you have caught him in the act. I'm glad that you are happy with him, and that he seems to have some good traits going on that will be worth breeding into your flock.

Yeah. Ive started collecting and are going to put some in the next friday!

Hi BlueBaby. I was supposed to put some in this morning but my Grandma had a massive stroke yesterday and had to get flown to hospital so we are up here with her. I might not be able to do one for a while

I'm sorry about your grandma, and I hope that she pulls out of it ok. Enjoy your grandma as much as you can. You can always do a hatch later.

So I bought an incubator! The 19 egg set in freinds bator only 7 hatched successfully, 6 have so far survived at 1 wk old now!

yes, as soon as I get over my fear of the incubator and get my head out of the sand so I can calibrate my Thermo/Hygro combo unit. I am not sure how to do the all in one device! And although the new incubator I bought is digital and it says no calibration is needed due to it being calibrated prior to shipment, I was told not to trust it and that another device would be a good idea!

I Really do want to incubate, but having been use to the broody hens taking care of it over the years, if I want to get more of my project(s) off the ground and going I need to get more chicks going too!

I would do a 24 hour test run with the incubator set up that you will do, but do not put your eggs in there during that time. That way you will be able to see what it is going to do.

I am soooooo sorry if this has been asked before or if I am in the wrong place to ask this.

I am building an incubator that is 30 inches long by 19 inches wide with a slanted top that is 11 inches at one end and 22 inches at the other. With that being said, I want to use r-board (blue outdoor sheet insulation) as the insulation. Is this going to be alright for insulation or what maybe better that is cheap or free as I am building on a budget of like $0.00 or less.

I know that people are using coolers and fridges that are made with thick insulation in them already. I figured if I tripled the sheets that would equal to 3/8 inch thick that would be ok for insulation. I used 3/4 inch plywood for the walls and 2x2's for the framing. Yes its heavy, but I wanted to use it for a lot of hatches and possibly sell it and upgrade later. I want to use 2 40 watt light bulbs for heat also. Any help on this situation is appreciated greatly! Thanks.
