The Paleo Diet

Recently diagnosed with PCOS. Have had autoimmune issues all my life that worsened as years went by. I struggle with chronic infections (though can no longer feel ear infections as my ear drums are so scarred up....still very much aware of my adult acne though), fibromyalgia, TMJ and other chronic inflammation, "brain fog", memory issues, lipomas, greying hair since the age of six, and on and on. Many diets claim healing, but while I have found quite a bit of relief with a very paleo version of low carb/low sugar, I still have a long way to go. Paleo, like any of the diets out there, seems to work for some people to varying degrees, *but* the reasons why it can cause improvements seem to often be incorrectly interpreted.

Ie. Does buckwheat bran help many women relieve symptoms of PCOS because it is high in vitamins? Because it is high in d-chiro inositol? Because it can improve insulin sensitivity? Because it is high in selenium and can help bind up mercury? Because of other reasons entirely?

My Wife, adult kids and myself have been on the Paleo diet for several months. We have never felt better, and my Wife who used to have 2-3 migraines a week, has only had 2 in the last 2 months. I'm an avid Mountain biker, and have more energy than ever before, and have lost 12 pounds without watching calories.
It is the only diet we have been on where you actually enjoy the food you get to eat. There are several great internet sources for an endless supply of great recipes, you won't even know your dieting.
We have a couple of good natural grocers near us, so buying non processed foods isn't a big issue(plus we have a huge organic garden every year), but you do need to read labels to make sure what your buying is Paleo friendly.

I pasted some of my favorite sites for recipes below.

I started a similar diet called the Primal BluePrint. http://www.primalblueprint.com/
I began on January 12th and have lost 11.8 lbs and about 3 inches off my waist. I haven't even started to do any real fitness training or weight-lifting other than everyday activities such brooder and coop building, etc. You don't even have to buy the books or anything. You can go to http://www.marksdailyapple.com and get some free downloads and get the jist of it. Beside, who doesn't like a diet where you can have bacon at every meal.

We do the Primal Blueprint also. I've been on it for about 6 months now and have lost a little over 43 lbs since starting.

My husband and I have been loosely following the "Primal" diet for 2-3 years now. When he first started on the diet, he lost more than 50 lbs. in about six months and hasn't gained it back!

Part of why I am looking to raise chickens is for the higher quality of meat and eggs, without additional hormones or unnecessary antibiotics. We also garden what we can organically-as-possible, and the chickens should help that with their fertilizer as well. :)
That is the reason why I'm getting my own chickens. For the great eggs and hopefully the meat. I've never processed chickens before, so that should be an adventure.

I eat meat, vegetables, fruit and small amount of dairy. I drink water, coffee and occasionally a diet soda, but not very often. It's really not hard, but does take some getting used to. I do know that on the occasions that I eat something I'm not suppose to, namely bread/breading products, I pay for it for the next several days.

I started it last year, loved it! But somewhere during the year something slipped (me). I still allow no wheat on our house, no grains either. But some candy has found its way back in. And when I'm out of the house, I admit I cheat. And of the 25 lbs I lost, I've put 12 back on. BUT tomorrow is my last day of work, and after that there will be no cheating. We are to far from a "easy cheat store" so no grabbing it after work.
Worst thing is, I no longer like the taste of the junk food, its all my head craving it. I'm just going to deal with the next 2 weeks cravings!

My wife and I have been Paleo for over a year now. I've never felt better. I sleep better, I have more energy, I have no more digestive issues. My wife's eczema disappeared. It was a thing we did for Lent last year and we just never stopped. I've barely even had a cold since switching to Paleo. Love it and can't rave enough about it.

I went paleo a little over a year ago, my 22 month old twins have been paleo and my husband tries to eat gluten free. I love the paleo way of eating and it's what got me wanting to homestead since I spend way to much on organic, non GMO foods at the grocery store. I have been needing to follow the AIP protocol because I still have some gut health issues but overall it's been great!
