Any advice on trimming "fluffy butts". My SLW has a very fluffy butt and constantly has a bit of a poop streak. Her vent is not being blocked and I have already bathed her once. I also have wormed her to just be sure it wasn't that. No sign of anything wrong. I think she's just too fluffy. Someone had mentioned trimming her but I'm not sure how short to go????

I have the same issue recently. She is laying eggs with a little poo on them since she is sitting. Very fluffy feathers. I can't get my hands on her to catch her either. Any suggestions on catching a bird and I have already tried the food/treats thing. I failed at grabbing her, for such a large bird she is very quick.

Take a flash light with you and pluck her off the roost at night. Use baby wipes and wipe off the poo. Check for any unusual redness on her bum and if the smell is off. Poo streaks is pretty normal in birds with thick feathers. The baby wipes work real well.

I have never trimmed a bird in 35 years. If the hen is healthy and the male is fertile, all the feathers in the world are not going to stop fertilization. I have English Orpingtons too..some are feathered to the ground. I have dirty butts during change in seasons. Like now they are dirty because there is less greens and bugs, so they eat more grains. The stool is looser till the gut gets used to change. In spring and in heat they have loose stool from increased greens and water. Baby wipes work.

fluffy butts are going to be dirty

all of those feathers to the ground..100% fertility.
baby wipes work for me..they might not work for everyone
