What Breeds are Going Extinct?

Does anyone know what breeds are going extinct? I know they are heritage breeds.
Also, does anyone else has experience with trying to keep these heritage birds pure and alive.

Here are the breeds of chickens on their critical and threatened lists

I have Campines ~ not breeding though. They are my most fun birds & I aim on getting more. They aren't a breed that goes broody so if you want them you will need to incubate or find a broody hen for your eggs.

A lot actually, that's a great site for all agricultural animals in danger or worse. Some maybe moving up slowly like Orloffs and Icelandic's, they both have a huge cult following in the states with some farms having rather large preservation flocks not to mention the small hobbyist around the country. I always had a dream of having several preservation pens and multiple breeds/landraces. Far as I got was a couple Icelandic roosters.

If you’re into preserving rare breeds, you may find sources at the livestock conservancy site. If you want pets or a public service project, breeding these rare birds is a worthy endeavor. They often are not very utilitarian in themselves but their genetic heritage is very important. Most of those I’ve read about do best in warm climates.

The Livestock Conservancy is a great site to utilize. Any Heritage breed is worth getting into, because so many are/were going by the wayside due to the commercial meat/egg industry, and many are not totally out of the woods yet in regards to population size and genetic virility.

I’d say Campines for sure i’m lucky enough to have a trio and Java’s! I can’t find anyone with Java’s.

I plan on breeding Old English Game bantams soon, but just pet quality and I only have one pair so there won't be many.

I heard somewhere that the White-faced Spanish breed is also endangered, and Jungle fowl.

You’ll LOVE the Old English I have a male and 7 hens and I love them they’re super sweet and talkative! I have the white tailed buff variety but every variety is so beautiful.

While they aren’t on the critical list I do believe they’re on the watch list..Plymouth Rocks.
