It IS amazing how many people ARE actually that far removed from where their food comes from. I've gotten the "don't you need a male for eggs" for both the chickens and the ducks. Then they connect the dots when I say,"I only need the males for little ones" and say "oh ....so you won't be having baby geese?" (Since my gander died) and I just want a say, "you're starting to get it!". But I don't. LOL Mainly because next their question is, "You're gonna eat goose eggs?" Usually while making a face. People are strange critters. Right now I have a truly bizarre idea going on with my 80 year old dad. He grew up on a farm and my grandmother kept a flock of 50+ chickens that free ranged but he has informed me that he cannot and will not eat a brown egg. No, he is not senile at all which makes it even more bizarre since he INSISTS my grandmother never had brown egg layers and I know that's not right. Just the idiosyncrasies of getting to your 80's I guess and deciding you will eat or not eat what you want. I told him he was out of luck as I don't have any white layers and that he would have to wait on the ducks. Nope...not gonna eat duck eggs either. I have no idea what is up with him....he grew up on a farm!
