Hello. I'm really new to emus and currently have two that hatched almost a week ago.

The oldest of the two is panting heavily. I'm not sure why, especially since he's acting normally otherwise ( eating and drinking well, is active, ECT.)

My best guess is his diet ( they're eating chick starter feed, cabbage, apples, and tomates for now untill I can go to the feed store tomorrow) but I'm not sure.

The other chick doesn't seem to pant like the other.

Looks like while I was typing this, his breathing has calmed down. Either way Im still getting them supplemental stuff, and would like to know what to look for.

Thank you.

What's the brooder temp? He may be hot. Regular chicks need to have the brooder lowered a bit each week or so. Is there an area the baby can escape to if he gets too hot?

move your heat lamp to one end of the brooder ( so he/they both can get out of the heat if need be) but my guess is he's got other problems that getting too warm.
