Not only was this article super helpful with all its details and pictures, but @DobieLover has also answered a number of my questions about my own setup (and missteps :)) to help me correct it. For as much work se the coop/run must have been, i think maybe the article took just as long to put together! Thanks again for all the help

I recently got the 250W stock tank de-icer. However, the instructions mention something about inserting a pole 8' deep and wrapping copper wire around it. Did you do this as well?? It also says it's not to be used with an extension cord. My only option would be to use a heavy duty extension cord. I also got a watertight connection for that. Is this the set up you used?

I don't have a grounding rod or use an extension cord to plug the deicer in. You should be fine with your connection protected.
