I agree with everything. There is one minor thing I am not positive about concerning roost bars (using a 2 x 4 inch with the 4 side up). My girls are using rounded 2 x 2 boards and natural 2 inch diameter limbs. They love to snuggle on them and never complain. Love your pictures. Well done!

Thank you for the info. It is helpful. I am currently putting out water with ice cubes for them to 'play' with. They don't just drink the water, they play keep-away with the cubes! Funny to watch. Although my run is covered, I would like to place a small 10' x 10' tarp near one side for the cruel afternoon sun. They are good to go in the morning but after 1:00 pm, it gets brutal. My neighbor also recommended a small fan in the coop. Great article.
Very interesting read. I was not aware of some of those breeds but I am sure there are many that I do not know. Keep it up!

Thank you for the information. It is thoughtful and a good place to start. It is imperative that everyone do their homework and research before setting out on this journey. Sometimes you have to step out in faith on who you source your birds/eggs from. For a newbie like me, everyone is suspect until you jump in. Since Covid, it was very hard for me to even find a source of chicks. I ended up with a large distributor after trying to find a local. It all worked out in the end.

The Egg song, it’s not about the egg; it’s an escort call.

Incredible! Good job. I hope to be mating my girls. I hear my neighbor's free-ranging flock and the egg song is a regular event. Thanks!
