I love how you start out with "it was going to be the kids playhouse" and don't go any further than that LOL. So I was captured with that pic, and the gorgeous posts. Then the framing, and you saying you've never built anything.
You could raise buffalo in that thing! It turned out beautifully and you need to pat yourself on the back for the rest of your life. First class, it really is.

But very nice article. I wonder how the roosting ladder is working out - I just put one in but it is much shorter with wider boards. Apparently they'll poop on eachother at night -- I wonder if the author had this problem.:hmm

Nice article! I personally like to see materials used in a list form but that's just me.
The welded wire would allow rodents and snakes access to the chicks, and raccoons will simply stick a paw in and drag a chick out or just eat it through the wire. In my experience.:hit
Overall, I think safety is enough of an issue that the plan needs tweaking by the addition of hardware cloth over the welded wire. Of course it needs to be fastened down within an inch of it's life, but the great thing about the plan is the base to attach to.
I like the "hoop house" cover over the coop.
