Super helpful information, including all the aspects of winter care and run preparation that one should consider well before the freezing temperatures and snowfall.

The suggestion of using old rabbit cages with wire flooring is appalling. This is uncomfortable for the chickens without some sort of softer flooring. The wire is a surefire way to give those chickens bumblefoot. Much better for them would be to cover the wire flooring with the trays that usually come with the cages, and then add a substrate that can be cleaned out. The suggestion that cleaning coops or cages only once a week is just not enough. I get being on a budget, but if you can’t care for chickens properly, you shouldn’t have them.
