I like the way this sits. I'm looking for one with a rain hat. A larger pan or bowl inverted on top should work well.

Any update or improvements?

I had similar experiences with my 2 batches. Great foragers. When butchered, they had gizzards full of grass.
thank you for writing this up. Very thorough and informative.

Interesting point about mercury thermometers not being reliable on their sides. I'll have to stand mine up and check. Using a lab grade mercury and digital aquarium thermometers. The hygrometer thermometers shouldn't be submerged. How to calibrate? Check with medical or lab grade.

The freezer bag hygrometer test showed low at 65%. Was advised to use glass jar. 2 Hygrometers came up to 72/73% within 2 hours. Much better accuracy. Beware the sealable bags.

Check your batteries or have spares. Weak batteries will cause errors on hygrometers and thermometers.

The hygrometer thermometers shouldn't be submerged. How to calibrate? Many thermometers are not submersible either, you just need one or two to test then compare to any others.

The personalized touches of zebra tape and chicken feet socks were over the top! Well played!

Great links and clear concise writing style. Love the updates almost as much as the socks. The candor about what worked and what's needed, and was improved, gave great insight into design. Comments about better support of the bin bator and temperature fluctuations are thought provoking.

I am actively researching for a bator build or purchase. This helps.

Appreciate the article immensely.
