Good article, but I thought hens lived 10-12 years before being old? We had chickens on our farm growing up and they did not live long. This is my first time raising my own chickens, but I have read 10-12 years is what they live if well cared for. These chickens are like pets and receive excellent care. Is that really not the norm?

Great article, may have to use this method. I have a Black Copper Marans and a Barnevelder that are smallest in my flock of 8 and they always hang on the outside, waiting for the others to finish eating. The others just give them a peck occasionally for no apparent reason, I feel bad for them, seems like they both have no confidence.

Very informative! I hope my chicks will not get sick, because I fed them a whole bunch of my lentil sprout mix yesterday

I am not sure if sprouted raw legumes are toxic to chickens?
