Breed Information, Comments, and Experience with breed:

The earliest this breed was recorded was in 1617, when a French artist was found with a pamphlet which had a picture of a bearded chicken on it. Albert Cuyp, a painter in the 17th century, is said to have painted a d'Anver. Also, Sailors imported these to-be d'Anvers into Antwerp near the end of the 1600s. They first became popular in the 1890s when there were many poultry shows. One show in the mid 1890s was said to have had upward of 50 of them entered.
