What a great design of a treadle feeder. I've been thinking about making one of these, because it would do a lot to keep the mouse population down, and I might use your plans!
What a great article. I built this feeder quite some time ago and it works brilliantly.
There were 2 modifications I had to make:
1. I had an issue with mice squeezing in from the side of the lid. I added 1/4 round to each side to completely seal it and that stopped the mice.
2. The chickens would flick the feed with their beaks out to the side and there would be feed everywhere. I added chicken wire across the opening of the feeder and that stopped that behaviour.
Thanks again for sharing.
Love that this was so clearly explained! I enjoy the many details and the updates! The first build looks absolutely beautiful and making adjustments to make it work even better in the second build was great! Providing a cost list was nice! I'd love to build something like this for our girls! Those plans are wonderful and easy to read/follow!
Although I don't have the skill to make this feeder myself, I wish I did. It is well written and has detailed, clear instructions and complete diagrams for visual aid. The whole project is easy to understand, as it is divided into steps that would be simple to follow.
I'm going to show this article to my husband. He knows how to make things like this!!
