Cicadas: Can Your Chickens Eat Them?

My hens are not free range (too many stray dogs) so I bring the treats to them. Since the cicadas have emerged, I spend some time daily to pick up what I find in my yard and put into a bucket to give to them each afternoon/evening. It's a feeding frenzy and they love it! Great idea for a post as so many have the super emergence of cicadas this year.
I think we get a different variation of them here in the North. This was a very interesting read and educational.
Interesting article! I don’t believe I have cicadas around, but good information to know nonetheless.
Here in the south, cicadas are so plentiful in the afternoons they are deafening. Occasionally I’ll find a live one in the yard. I’ll give it to any girl that will take it and then the chase is on! My chickens love them.
Helpful article!
My girls and boy are scared of Cicadas? I guess they don't like the sound they make, but they'll chase off a 4' rat snake. Go figure?‍♀️ I raise Superworms and mealworms for my spoiled rotten brats, who also free roam all day, then come to fence to beg for bugs like they're starving to death.
Short but to the point.
I’ve seen a lot of cicada molts around the chicken coop and some eating a few cicadas.
Good to know they can crunch away!
