Cleaning and storing fresh eggs

I learned something new! As I'm waiting on egg-layers to lay their first eggs, I'm trying to learn all I can about storing them since all I've ever done is buy my eggs from the grocery store. My brain has a hard time wrapping around storage on the counter rather than in the fridge but this eases a lot of those fears and explains the reasons behind the choices and/or when to choose fridge over counter! Thanks for the help!

But I believe that the first image shown should be half eggs getting washed and half eggs being left natural. Or even no image at all.
As a skim-reader my first thought when I opened this article was “Oh, I guess I should wash my eggs!” after seeing said picture. I believe an unbiased article such as this should have images of both sides or no images at all.

I did not know that you can store eggs without refrigeration for such a long time.
The idea of harvesting clean eggs is good, but won't work with ducks! I explained my ducks so many times the purpose of those boxes in their house - the ignore them and lay their eggs wherever they just pop out.

Excellent and sensible advice. I've seen those egg wipes - always felt they were an expensive waste of money. Glad you didn't mention them in the article.
I'd rather keep the bloom on my eggs if there's just a small muddy smear on the shell. Generally if you keep a clean coop you'll have clean eggs that don't need washing. We really only have dirty eggs when we have heavy rain storms & everything gets muddy! Then I wash, dry and refrigerate the eggs.

I never wash my eggs, I just crack them poop side up.

Preparing for our pullets to lay in a few months. So much to learn. In an age of overwhelming information on every possible bacteria, virus, parasite, etc., that can afflict us, or our flocks, as we try to provide healthy to our families, I really appreciate sensical articles like this!
