Two years ago I knew nothing about raising chickens...
Then, I got hooked.
This is a two piece chicken tractor that I built in the spring of 2013 to house six layer hens. I needed a laying/roosting coop that could be stored in the garage at night when necessary, and a run that could be moved around the yard. I built a prototype that I used for about nine months, then designed this one on the computer. The coop opens on both sides, with a removeable poop tray that sits over a bed of wood shavings. There are two laying boxes with a place for water in the center. Crank up lids offer light and ventilation in the coop. The run is 6x10 and has one door on each side of the roof. The post in the center has a solar flood light that I installed so I could see to close the hatch at night. The coop and run go together easily, the coop door closes from the top. The coop is on five rubber tires, one in front, four in back, to allow for flotation and stability on uneven ground. Coop is also wired with an outlet for artificial lighting in the winter.
I'm posting this because I've been watching this site for over a year now, and have so much of the information available here to learn about how to raise chickens and build this set up. I hope that I can pass along the inspiration and some of what I've learned to others.
