Hello everyone, I don’t talk much but I have read over and over, answers to many of my questions. I have a peculiar situation and just wanted to relay my success and miracle dealing with botulism. Last summer a 3 year old bantam rooster hobbled up to me in a panic. He got worse , he had been my favorite since he was a tiny chick. I nursed him for 3 months. He finally gave up I believe. His pride was hurt. Laboring over how this happened I figured it was real hot and he ate some wet food or dirty water. This summer after major raining another young sizzle rooster hobbled to me, I was devistated! Omg not again. Still thinking it was spoiled feed or feed in the water, It was neither, it was the maggots from flies. In Texas when it’s hot and rains a lot you have little control over them. And chickens love worms!! After researching for weeks, it hit me!! They dive in for worms. Water is clean, food is fresh, why is this happening?? It’s got to be the maggots. Worried about all kinds of other diseases, I was a wreck!! A week later another 4 month old was weak and lost control of his legs and neck. So a campaign to stamp out the flies with traps and stinky hanging bottles. It worked, no more maggots. But I still have these two gorgeous roosters. I’ve kept them in a temp controlled room and nursed them . 48 hours went by ok they’re gonna live. But it’s been a long climb. Getting them into position so they can eat. Cleaning up poops that are up the walls of their carriers. Fighting with myself as to whether I should euthanize them. Vitamin e, selenium, treats and working their legs , massages, talking to them. It’s been a month and both are starting to stand with feet unfurled. Sit in upright positions, lean over and drink from a cup. I just had to tell you guys, miracles do happen!! This is Atlas, my first sizzle rooster. He is walking again!
