It all started when our friends bought chickens. And then my mom insisted that we 'needed' chickens. My husband and I both looked at her like she was crazy. We have two kids under three... we have no time for chickens! And then I played with the idea for months. I started reading blogs and forums and all things chickens. I searched pinterest. I googled coops. I was kinda obsessed. And I slowly but surely believed I did "need" chickens! Think of all the money I'd save on eggs! ha... my chickens need to start laying Willy Wonka golden eggs at this point!

So... I talked my dad and husband into building me a coop. I provide all the essential details and pictures... they provide all the tools, supplies, and hard work. Good deal.
This was my inspiration coop:

I knew for sure I wanted to be able to walk inside for easy cleaning. And I knew I wanted an attached run to provide safety while we're at work or out of town.
The boys got started.

Luckily my dad works in the construction realm and has great connections for left-over windows, extra roofing, etc.

We also lived in Home Depot for months. We should have bought stock.

The attached run. Our yard is completely fenced, so this is mostly to keep the girls contained.

And finally... it was ready!

I cut and painted this rooster chalkboard myself. Proud moment. Power tools are scary.

Feed store treasures.

Final touches.

And our sweet girls. Or what were supposed to be 'girls'...

And I am now a proud chicken farmer!
