CottageChicken22's Dilemma and Dream​
It all started in the summer of '07. I was talking to my neighbor who had just remodelded his home. While chatting, he invited me to his home to take a look. The house was great but even COOLER he had chickens in his yard. How cool is that? I immediantly became inspired to keep chickens. I mean I HAD too.
I then checked out a ton of books at the library on chickens and became totally researched, there was barely anything I needed to knowabout them. I found websites like here, BackYardChickens.com and many other major fowl sites. I became a fan of chickens. I planned a coop, picked out breeds---UNTIL, I researched if they were legal where I live. I called them and they said it's illegal to keep any livestock because its non-conforming and therefore not a land use.
First I wrote to someone who had a good standing in the county goverment. She said she didn't want to help me. Desperate, I started writing a letter to another person. I am currently in the process of writing this letter. If you have advice PLEASE tell me. This guy I'm writing sounds like he would be more receptive to legalizing chickens. So HOPEFULLY they'll legalize chickens. Thanks for reading everyone! God Bless.
If they legalize chickens I plan to have 2 Australorps, 1 Rhode Island Red, 1 Easter Egger, 1 Barred Rock, 1 Hamburg, and 1 Buff Orpington.
