I started my Mottled Cochin's on accident. I got my first roo Dudley at an auction for $14. I later swapped eggs for Splash Cochin hens.

I had a large pen of Cochins and Dudley quickly rose to the top of the pecking order and breeding all of my hens. I got lots of blue chicks from this breeding. I didn't get mottling on any because both of they parents have to carrry the mottled gene to produce mottled chicks. I will get mottled from them if I breed them together or to a Mottled rooster. I kept 3 cockerel and 6 hens from them. My favorite cockerel was Magic who was taken by a fox around three months of age along with 1 hen and a cockerel. I later lost Dudley as well. I was left with 2 cockerels and then 3 hens. I quickly decided to sell the less typey of the 2 boys and kept Napoleon as Dudley's replacement. I never got any eggs from Napoleon and the hens as Napoleon and 1 hen were killed.

Thankfully, I had another Mottled roo being shipped to me from Amy at West Knoll Farm. I got a real nice typey cockerel I named Roscoe.

I put Roscoe with the last of my 2 hens that carry the mottled gene and have gotten beautiful blue mottled chicks!!!

PLEASE CHECK BACK OFTEN AS I WILL TRY TO UPDATE IT WEEKLY!!!!!
