This is my Ugly Chicken. When everyone else started to moult, she turned broody. I don't have a rooster since I live in town and prefer not to annoy my neighbors so I acquired some fertile eggs from a friend. Ugly Chicken was trying to set in the community nest box, but the other hens kept running her off. As you may know, a broody hen will get very aggressive and the fighting was leading to broken eggs. I ended up putting her in this cage for her own protection. Anyway, she hatched out 4 chicks on September 29th. They are a Barred Rock and Americana mix.
This picture was taken at 2 months old. They're almost as tall as their adopted momma. Aren't they beautiful? I think the one on the right may be a rooster.
