Dust Baths: What they are and why they are important

Well done! I am now concerned about the DE I have used in my chickens dust bath...I read an article that touted it's use in the mix of sand and soil. Any ideas on how long the DE remains dangerous to their respiratory system? They have of course almost emptied the kiddie pool of of the mixture I put in. Should I remove the soil from the area? Till it in? It has rained almost every day since I made the bathing area. (approx 12 days ago). GAH!! I hate when I find differing advice! Here is an example of one such article https://thecraftyfarmer.blog/2019/06/21/creating-dust-baths-for-chickens/ and here is one from google https://piwakawakavalley.co.nz/the-ultimate-chicken-dust-bath-recipe/

Thanks! I was just checking into different options for dust baths the other day. I was thinking of using a large cat litter box and am wondering about using a large covered litter box, which would keep the dirt contained and dry. Any thoughts about that?
Outstanding article. I do add a very tiny bit of Diatomaceous Earth to the bath. However, ya got me think'n! ?
I’ve been wondering about dust baths - thank you for the info! :thumbsup
Good explanation of The Dust Bath for newbies.

Great information. I love the photos of the bathing chickens! I'm so confused about the diatameceous earth. Some say to dust the chickens with it if they have mites???? Also wonder how to keep the sand in the tires from getting wet in the rain.
