Happy Healthy Hens

Happy Hens...

My first tip for a happy hen is not to dress up a chicken for a BYC contest, without making sure you picked a calm nicely behaved one, like so...

A Dandy, if at all possible, is very helpful!:D But you can't have mine!;)

Next, you will also want to have some toys, or shredded paper, which mine use as a toy. Exhibit A:View attachment 2400201
They also love to eat treats like raisins, carrot, apple, and banana. If you want really happy hens, leave them alone while they free-range, mine love that. General privacy, and seclusion is great, Especially when it comes to egg laying. On to Healthy Hens...

Healthy Hens...

Checking your coop daily, for mites, abnormal poop, or eggs. Nobody wants to do it, but we have to. In the evening check for mites on the vent of the chicken, and on the coop and legs, these are key points for mites. And, if you have poultry health questions, post it and ASK FOR HELP IF NEEDED. SOMEONE WILL ANSWER. Worming, first upload a picture if the suspected worm on BYC, confer to find what worm it is, ask what medicine to use, get medicine, ask how much to use, and deworm according to instructions. Putting wormer in water generally is ineffective.

Extra...

If you have to give a chicken a bath, dry with a hairdryer, it is faster, and they love it. Also, If you have attitude issues, poke them in the side lightly. It is very effective.
