Ingredients:

Dried mealworms
Oyster shell
Growers pellets and/or chick crumb
Split maize/cracked corn

You'll also need:
  • A measuring cup (I use a normal paper cup)
  • A bowl or container
  • optional extra ingredients (eg. Dried veg, sunflower seeds, layers pellets)




Method:

Add 2 cups of Oyster shell.

Add a cup of growers pellets/chick crumb

Mix, then add 1/2 cup of mealworms

Mix again and add a cup of split maize. This is also the time to add any optional extras.

Mix the whole thing well and either put in a container for later or put in a feeding bowl.

Serve! I have put some in their coop treat bowl, and sprinkled it outside for them to forage.

Nutritional Analysis:
This treat is especially good for winter aafternoons. It's high in protein and fat, which keeps them warm and helps their molts.
Disclaimer: Do not feed in large quantities too often since it can make them too fat and lead to illness. Treats should only make up 10% of a chicken's diet.


Purposes for each ingredient:
  • Oyster shell- Calcium for strong eggs
  • Mealworms- Protein and to make the treat tastier
  • Growers pellets- Protein and if you have a mixed age flock
  • Corn- warmth/fat
